Sgt. Lloyd Blevins - 352nd Squadron
Sgt. Lloyd Blevins died on May 20, 1944, when a P-51 was playing tag with other AAF fighters over the Lucera airfield lost engine power, crashed while attempting a dead stick landing, and caught fire. A crowd of onlookers surged around the Mustang just as a short-circuit triggered the fighter's guns, killing six men in addition to the pilot and injuring six others. The majority of the casualties were black troops guarding the airfield, although two men from the 301st were among the dead, Sgt.
