John Hedquist
2nd Lt John H Hedquist Jr was assigned to the 301st BG 32nd Squadron.

John H. Hedquist, Jr., passed away early Friday, May 23, 2003. John was born in Elberton, Georgia on November 7, 1924 to Maude and Herbert Hedquist. He attended North Georgia Military College and Texas Tech. John owned and operated Hedquist Pink Granite Company in Elberton and after moving to Jacksonville in 1954, he owned and operated Gray and Hedquist. John owned the Amoco station at the corner of Atlantic and University for more than 30 years where many of his customers became his dear friends. John worked for Hedquist and Associates Reporters until his passing.
John served his country as a nineteen year old navigator on a B17 bomber during World War II with the 301st Bomb Group, 32nd Bomb Squadron, flying 51 missions over Germany. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross.
John was also a 53year Master Mason. John was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of the Glynlea United Methodist Church. Survivors include his devoted wife of 53 years, Wanderleen Boyd Hedquist, three children, John H. Hedquist, III, Lynn Hedquist Poole (Ron), and Marianne Hedquist McMichael (Lamar), a sister, Jo Anne Gray (Basil), three grandsons, Ronnie, Will, and David Poole and two granddaughters, Heather and Hannah Hedquist, and many other family and friends. Graveside funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24th, 2003, at the Mausoleum at Oaklawn Cemetery at 4801 San Jose Blvd. Pastors Michael Smith and John Bennett will be officiating. Friends and family are welcome and will be received following the services at Wanda and Johns home.
