Jarrell "Jerry" Barnhill of Wheaton A memorial service for Jarrell "Jerry" Barnhill, 83, formerly a longtime resident of Sea Cliff, N.Y.,will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, at St. Matthew United Church of Christ, 1420 S. Gables, Wheaton. Born Dec. 18, 1919, in Bailey, Okla., he died Sunday, May 11, 2003, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield. Interment will be private in Wheaton Cemetery.

Mr. Barnhill served as a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was a B-17 bomber pilot. He earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering and then a master of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Jerry then began a career as a mechanical engineer, working for many years at Sperry Gyroscope, finishing his career at the age of 80 at Lawrence Aviation Industries. More recently, he was an active member of St. Matthew United Church of Christ in Wheaton, where he served as a choir member and also on the building and grounds committee. He was also a member of the Silvertones singing group and an active member of the Wheaton Leisure Center and he enjoyed many trips with the group.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Nigel; children, Press (Gena) of Liberty, Mo., Janell (Frank) Weinstock of Cincinnati, Ohio and Laura (Thomas) Barto of Wheaton; and grandchildren, Brent Barnhill, Kristen (Flynn) Tregay, David Weinstock, Heather Weinstock, Cheryl, Cynthia and Danielle Barto.
