The obituary for SGT Edward C. Ware, Jr., 353rd BS

Edward C. Ware, Jr., Berlin, Massachusetts, June 05, 2010

Edward C. Ware Jr., 90, of Berlin, died Saturday, June 5th at St. Josephs Hospital in Nashua, NH. He was the beloved husband for 58 years to the late Margaret E. (Wheeler) Ware who died in 2004.

Edward was born in Clinton and raised in Bolton, son of the late Edward C. Sr. and Ida M. (Walcott) Ware. He was a 1937 graduate of Hudson High School and later attended the Worcester Boys Trade School, class of 1940. He also took several courses at Northeastern University. He resided in Berlin for 60 years, Hudson from 2008 to 2010 and resided in Milford, NH since January 2010.

He was a WWII veteran, serving in the Army Air Corps, graduating from the U.S. Air Corp A.M. School and Wright Engine School in Patterson, NJ. He was a member of Army Air Corps 301st Heavy Bombardment Group in England, North Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

He worked as a painter and decorator before and after his military service until 1964 at which time he began a long career as a store manager for the Aubuchon Hardware Co. in Clinton, Hudson and Marlboro, he retired in 1985. He served on the Board of Appeals in Berlin for many years. Edward had many interests and hobbies which included ten pin bowling, woodworking, gardening, reading and sailing. He also enjoyed the game of golf and worked part-time for several years at the Berlin Country Club.

He is survived by his two daughters, Claudia N. Cornwell and her husband Gary of Germantown, TN and Paula J. Gregory and her husband Gene of Milford, NH. He also leaves his brother, Eliot Ware of Las Vegas, NV; his four grandchildren, Chad Cornwell of Bardstown, KY, Amy Cornwell of Charlotte, NC, Abbie Gregory of Redondo Beach, CA, Kristin Gregory of Milford, NH; his great granddaughter Madeline Cornwell and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late William and Arthur Ware, Alice Babcock and Ruth Sizemore.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 10th at 11:00 a.m. at the Tighe-Hamilton Funeral Home, Inc. 50 Central Street, Hudson, MA 01749. Burial will follow in South Cemetery, Berlin. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, June 9th from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. (www.tighehamilton.com)

Edward was listed on a roster of personnel assigned to the 301st Bombardment Group on this date, 6 April 1943, when they were awarded a Presidential Unit Citation (PUC).
