Maj. Turner O. Veith, Jr. USAF (Ret.) June 20, 1923 - September 28, 2011

Turner Oswalt Veith, Jr was born on June 20, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York to Dr. Turner Oswalt and Sarah Ferguson Hatch Veith, Sr. He served in the United States Air Force, flying as a navigator, and flew 32 combat missions over Germany. He retired as a Major in 1969, after 26 years of service.

He was an award winning published photographer, photographic lecturer, teacher, computer programmer, and world traveler. He attended the School of Modern Photography and developed a successful portrait negative retouching business, he also received a Bachelor of Science degree from LSU. Veith's photographs have been published in Life, Time, Newsweek, and numerous other publications. Such photographs include aerial photography from Alaska to Greenland, and still and motion picture coverage of the missile launches during the initial space test program. He is a member of the Photographic Society of America and the Professional Photographers of America.

Turner was preceded in death by his wife, Gloria Flores Veith, and his daughter, Deborah Ann Meyer. Surviving are his son, Carl Veith; grandchildren, Michael Veith and wife, Cathy, Cathy Gonzalez and husband, Joel, Daniel Veith, Cassandra Meyer Russell and husband, Jonathan, Amanda Meyer Meadows and husband, Andy; great-grandson, Aidan Veith; sister, Alcenith Green of New Braunfels, TX. and brother-in-law, Samuel Meyer.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on October 6, 2011 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, with full Air Force honors. The family would like to extend their grateful appreciation to the staff of VITAS Hospice and especially his caregivers, Rose Mary Montoya, Diane Castaneda and Connie Gonzalez for their loving care.
