Fidelis Shutler


Fidelis Shutler passed away today, 9/28/2010, at the age of 92. He had been ill since July.

SHUTLER, Fidelis Nicholas "Dale", 92, of Wheeling W.Va., died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 at Wheeling Hospital.

Born in St. Joseph Settlement, W.Va. on April 24, 1918, Dale was the son of the late Frederick and Clara B. Frohnapfel Shutler. He was member of the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II serving with the 301st. Bombardment Group which was highly decorated and was Presidentially Cited. He was the owner operator of Dale's AG Superette on Wheeling Island and the Convenient Food Mart on Wheeling Island. Dale was a member of the Board of Directors of the former Grocers Development Corporation which founded the Convenient Food Mart Franchises. He was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral. He was an avid bowler, bowling until the age of 91, enjoyed listening to the radio, golfing and pitching horseshoes. Most of all he enjoyed his family.

In addition to his parents, Dale was preceded in death by five brothers, Herbert, Edmund, Robert, Charles and Eugene Shutler; one sister, Edith A. Fahey.

Surviving are his wife, Theresa Scheibelhood Shutler; two daughters, Mary M. Shutler and Ginny L. Shutler both of Wheeling; one brother, Urban Shutler of St. Clairsville Ohio; numerous nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Altmeyer Funeral Home 1400 Eoff Street Wheeling, W.Va. on Friday, October 1, 2010 from 4-8 p.m. Vigil services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday and rosary devotions will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St Joseph Cathedral, Wheeling. Interment will follow at Mt Calvary Cemetery.
