    • We are in Africa and have just received our first pyramidal tent and moved out of pup tents. I am the one on the lower right. Above me is Tony Guardabascio. Center upper is Nick Romanchuk. Center first row I believe is Dave Slayton. In the picture with the captain, I am on the top left. Next to me is Martin Shapiro. Next to him we called <p>Enlisted Men's Bar at Lucera 8, July 1944.</p> <p>The bar is another story. The officers took our allotment of tuffa stone (our cement blocks) and built an officer's club. With nothing remaining for the enlisted men, we put together a club of frag bomb boxes. It was promptly condemned by 5th Wing. Since I had been in construction before the war, I was given the assignment to fix up an enlisted men's club. We took over a barn that housed cattle and such. With some local talent we had all the dung shoveled out and cleaned up. We

    Because we had only a beer allowance and no entertainment it was only partially successful.
