Peter O'Carroll

Peter J. O'Carroll, 87, died Saturday, June 1, 2002, in his residence. He was a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, and had lived in Lake Charles since 1958. He was a graduate of Judge Memorial High School in Salt Lake City and attended Riverside Junior College in Riverside, Calif. He joined the Army Air Corps in 1941 and received his pilot's wings five days after the attack on Pearl Harbor. He flew B-17s from England and North Africa during World War II. He was the Commanding Officer of the 419th Squadron of the 301st Bomb Group. He retired as a lieutenant colonel after he was stationed at Chennault Air Force Base.

He owned Burger Chef restaurants in Lake Charles for 25 years. He was a member of the Sierra Club and the 301st Bomb Group Veterans Association. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, where he was an Eucharistic minister and served on the parish council. Survivors include three sons, Peter J. O'Carroll Jr. of Lake Charles, Patrick S. O'Carroll of Minneapolis, Minn., and Michael K. O'Carroll of Montgomery, Ala.; one daughter, Mary T. O'Carroll of Lake Charles; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 4, from Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church. The Rev. John Giles and Monsignor Irving de Blanc will officiate. Burial will be in Consolata Cemetery under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home. Visitation is 11 a.m.-9 p.m. today, with a Scripture service and rosary at 7:30 p.m. Donations may be made to Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church or St. Louis High School.
