Joe Meador


Joe W. Meador - age 86, died Wednesday, November 28, 2006. Mr. Meador was preceded in death by: mother, Nelle Kincaid-Meador; father, William G. Meador; sister, Mrs. Lela Helen Gidens; brother, William S. Meador. Mr. Meador graduated from the Berea Academy, Berea, KY and received a B.S. degree in industrial arts from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green, KY. He did additional college work at Lincoln Memorial University, Harrogate, TN; the University of Florida, Tallahassee, FL and Indiana University-Purdue University Extension at Indianapolis, IN.

Mr. Meador was a first Lieutenant and a World War II B-17 pilot in the 301st Bomb Group, 352nd Squadron, Fifteenth Air Force, stationed in Italy.

He taught industrial arts at Carrabelle High School, Carrabelle, FL, and retired after more than 37 years from the Detroit Diesel-Allison Division of General Motors in Indianapolis, where he was a designer-draftsman. Mr. Meador was a member of the West Towne Christian Church; the 301st Bomb Group/ Wings Association; and the Bronze Club.

Survivors include: the widow, Mrs. Jeanne Meador; sisters, Mrs. Maxie K. Simpson and husband, Howard H. of Knoxville, and Mrs.. Mary Ruth Gaylor and husband, Avon, of Signal Mountain, TN; sister-in-law, Miss Ruth V. Hodgin, of Knoxville; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be 7:30 p.m.

Friday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel with Rev. George Clark officiating. Family and friends will meet Saturday at Meador Cemetery, Harrogate, TN for an 11:30 a.m. interment service. The family will receive friends 6-7:30 p.m. Friday at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
