Ralph Lindsly
November 19, 1943 "Two days later the Bolzano Railroad Bridge was again the target, this time for ninety-five B-17s from the four groups. Although thirty-five to forty enemy aircraft hit other groups to the rear, the 301sr was not attacked. Of twenty-five 301st bombers that took off, nine aircraft returned early and sixteen dropped 192 of 300 500-pound bombs that were carried. One of the aborting aircraft, Lindsly's, cracked up at Calvi, Corsica, without injury to crew. In all, one third of the B-17s aborted , the remaining dropping 218 tons of bombs. The AAF lost five Forts and claimed two Me 109s destroyed. ( page 59; "Who Fears?" The 301st In War and Peace 1942-1979 by Kenneth Werrell ) 1st Lt.
