Roger Lawn
PFC ROGER C. LAWN entered the service from North Carolina. PFC Lawn died on May 20, 1944, when a P-51 was playing tag with other AAF fighters over the Lucera airfield lost engine power, crashed while attempting a dead stick landing, and caught fire. A crowd of onlookers surged around the Mustang just as a short-circuit triggered the fighter's guns, killing six men in addition to the pilot and injuring six others. The majority of the casualties were black troops guarding the airfield, although two men from the 301st were among the dead, Sgt. Lloyd Blevins of the 352nd BS, and Private Roger Lawn of the 353rd BS. PFC Lawn is buried at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery Nettuno, Italy, Plot G, Row 1, Grave 26
