George Huff

The obituary for 2nd Lt. George T. Huff, 352nd BS...

The last flight was taken by George Huff on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, just ten days short of his ninety-first birthday. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps as a pilot, flying with both the 301st and 454th bomber groups in the European theater of operations. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Clusters for his valor after 50 heroic missions over Europe.

He was a Chattanooga native and graduate of Central High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a degree in accounting. He retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, then Southern Railway, after many years of service.

He was a long time resident of Signal Mountain. His church affiliation was with Signal Mountain Baptist Church, having been a member for 42 years. The last three years of his life were spent as a resident of Summit View Assisted Living. His family wishes to thank the staff and administration of Summit View for helping him to have some quality of life during his long illness.

He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Morgan and Ethel Haun Huff and a brother J. Roddy Huff.

Survivors include his wife of over 50 years, Ernestine Huff; daughter, Charlotte Huff-Fogel (Arthur); son, Clint Huff; sister, Trophine Davis of Brookhaven, MS; brother, Robert Huff (Herta) of Redondo Beach, CA; sisters-in-law, Anne Huff of Signal Mountain and Barbara Meacham of Farmington, NM as well as several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 22 at Signal Mountain Baptist Church Chapel. The Reverends Sally Ensley and Steven Wright will officiate. The family will receive friends before and after the service at the chapel. Burial will be held in Maplewood Cemetery in Smyrna, TN on Sunday, May 23 with military honors.

In lieu of flowers the family requests remembrances be made to the Signal Mountain Baptist Church building fund or to the Alzheimers Association of Chattanooga.

Funeral arrangements will be handled by Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace.
