Leroy Hope

Leroy was wounded on the mission Feb. 24, 1944. ( See Document 1 ) Two of his crew mates provided aid to him when the attack by fighters finished. T/Sgt Stanley A. Chmielecki put the morphine in his mouth to warm it up at the high altitude. Sgt Frederick S. Bumpers, they called him "Cherokee Bumpers" because he was a Cherokee Indian assisted with his wounds. They were two of four of the crew that survived the mission the next day when when their B-17 was shot down on Feb. 25, 1944. ( See MACR 2722 )
S/Sgt. Leroy E Hope was assigned to the 301st BG 353rd Squadron. Military Occupational Specialty (MOS): Tail Gunner.
