FRITZSCHE, MR. NOMA J., - retired business man, farmer & U.S. Army Air Force Officer passed away Tuesday, May 30 in Methodist Medical Center, Oak Ridge. Born on March 28, 1920 in Rockwood & moved to Sunbright in 1929 where he graduated from high school. He joined the Air Force in 1941. He served until 1945 as a 1st Lt. Graduated as a B-17 bomber pilot, flew 25 missions out of Foggia, Italy. Following World War II he returned to Rockwood in 1945, where he went into business at Molyneux Lumber Company with his uncles, the late Harry & Tom Molyneux. He became owner and president of the company until the business closed in 1984. He also farmed during this time & lived on the farm until his death. He was a member of the American Legion, 40 & 8, Civitan Club of which he held several offices, including president & district lt. Governor. He was past president of the Rockwood Jaycees & Chamber of Commerce of Roane County, past president & other offices in civic organizations. He was a director for Federal Land Bank & was on the advisory board of the Farm Credit Services for this area. He was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockwood. Preceded in death by parents, Max & Emma Fritzsche; brother, Lealand Fritzsche; sister, Maxine Smith; grand parents, John & Ellen Eachus Molyneux & Fred & Christiana Fritzsche and is survived by: wife, Virginia Lou Coger Fritzsche, Harriman, formerly of Jonesboro, Arkansas whom he married in 1949; daughter, Emma Lou Griffith, Atlanta; son, Dr. James L. Fritzsche & wife, Lisa, Memphis; grandchildren, Michael Griffith, LaCross, Wisconsin, Laura Renee Fritzsche, Memphis; great grandchild, Venita Griffith; sister, Wilhelmina Andrews; niece, Margaret Law, both of Sacramento, California; nephew, Robert Magness, Florida; sister-in-law, Nora Fritzsche, Shelbyville; niece, Flora Fritzsche Barbara, Shelbyville; special cousins, Evelyn Carson Mankel & husband, George, Jeanette Carson Hedgecock & husband, Larry, Martha Phelps & husband, James. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the First Presbyterian Church, Rockwood with Rev. Stephen Yates officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery with full military honors by the Roane Volunteer Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, Rockwood or the American Cancer Society. Evans Mortuary of Rockwood is serving the family of Mr. Noma J. Fritzsche.
