Capt. Jerry Elery Dodge was born January 16, 1916 on a farm southeast of Akron, Colo. to William Lester and Hattie Lou Dodge. He received most of his elementary school education at the High Prairie school. His family moved to Fort Morgan, Colo. in 1927 where he graduated from the Fort Morgan high school. He attended Colorado University enlisting in the army air force after graduation.
He was a pilot on a B-17 bomber during World War II. He was commissioned a captain November 20, 1943, four days after he was declared missing.
According to the 15th Air Force WWII history, the B-17s of the 301st BG were tasked to bomb rail yards in France on Nov 16, 1943 . The Group was then based in Tunisia (the 301st BG moved to Italy in Dec 43.) His plane crashed into the Mediterranean Sea about 70 miles southwest of Marseilles, France, November 16, 1943. His remains were not recovered.
He was united in marriage to Lee Clover Kent June 27, 1942 at Merced California Air Base. They had no children.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mabel who died from the flu in 1919.
He was survived by his wife Lee, his parents, Lester and Hattie Dodge, three sisters, Veda Brandon, Katie Reiva and Bernie Carpenter and five brothers, Vern, Lester, Muriel, Russell and Arlie.
Son of William L. and Hattie Patterson Dodge. Husband of Lee Clover Kent Dodge of California.
