Harry T. Corbin Decorated vet was district manager, Chamber leader
A funeral service will be held Wednesday for Harry T. Corbin of 145 Boyd Drive, Hermitage. He passed away at 2:15 p.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage, after an extended illness. He was 84 Mr. Corbin was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Clintonville, Venango County, to Arthur and Mary Shaw Corbin. He graduated from Sharon High School in 1941. He began his career at G.C. Murphy Co., Midland, where he became the youngest manager at the age of 30. Harry then became district manager over Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio, having worked for 43 years before retiring in 1986. An Army Air Corps veteran, he was a decorated hero of World War II, receiving a Bronze Star and Presidential Citations with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He served with the 301st Bomb Group, 353rd Bomb Squadron, 15th Air Force, stationed in Foggia, Italy. As a 50-year member of the Syria Shriners, Harry was a 32nd degree Free and Accepted Mason. He also belonged to Oakland Avenue United Methodist Church, Sharon; Sharon Rotary Club and American Legion Post 299, Sharon. Active in his community, he was a past president of Sharon Chamber of Commerce and spoke at the opening of the Shenango Dam. His wife, the former Elaine Fox, whom he married Oct. 13, 1943, survives at home. A lso surviving are: special friends, Bernadette Laskowski, Erie; Natalie Grasso, Maryland; and Toril Engeset; a sister, Jean Thompson and her husband James, Sharon; and many loving nieces and nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. Harry was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lucille Viets, Anna Mae Kaisher and Mary Ellen Osborne; and two infant brothers, Alfred and Chester Corbin.
