Allen, Joseph W.
HOOPER - Joseph W. Allen, age 79, passed away on June 11, 2005, after a long
illness. He was born on September 16, 1925 in Holladay, Utah to Fred R. and
Florence Woods Allen. He married his sweetheart Florence Parker on August 1,
1945 in the Logan LDS Temple. Joe honorably served his country in the United
States Air Force in World War II completing 25 missions as a tail gunner in a
B-17, with the 15th Air Force 301 Bomb Group, stationed in Foggia, Italy. Joe
attended and graduated from Ogden High School in 1944. He received a
Bachelor's and Master's of Education degree from the University of Utah and
his love of education led to other post-graduate studies at Utah State and
BYU. He was a teacher and principal in Weber County Schools for 38 years. He
was the Hooper Notary Public for 30 years. He was a charter member of the
Hooper Lion's Club and served as chairman of several celebrations. He has been
involved in scouting for a lifetime and served as Scout Master, committee
chairman, and a Merit Badge councilor. Joe's testimony reflected his love of
the Savior and his fellow man. He always gave to those in need and he truly
loved and cared for those he met, even unto the end. He is a member of the LDS
Church and has served faithfully in many positions, including Ward clerk,
Executive secretary, councilor in Lakeview Stake mission presidency, a High
Councilman in Hooper Stake, Bishop's councilor, Bishop, and a dear home
teacher. He and his wife served an LDS mission to Guyana, South America, a
Hooper Stake mission, and were Ordinance workers for the Ogden Temple for nine
years. Joe is survived by his loving wife, Florence and children, JoLene
(Jerry) Park, Jim P. (Janette) Allen, Drue (Greg) Randall all of Hooper, Gayle
(Mike) Kelley of Ogden; Foster children, Etta (Tom) Thompson, New Mexico,
Amedee (Karen) Sanchez, Seattle, WA; his sister, Virginia (Don) Widdison of
Hooper; 19 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, his traveling buddies, the
Johnsons, P ages, the Gang from Hooper, and many dear friends. He was preceded
in death by a son, Jerald R. Allen, a brother, Fred R. Allen Jr., and his
parents. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 15, 2005 at 11 a.m. at
the Hooper 8th Ward, 5601 S. 6100 W. with Bishop Jon Peterson officiating.
Friends and family may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in
Roy, 5865 S. 1900 W., and on Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the church
prior to services. Interment, Hooper Cemetery where military honors will be
