Thomas Casey
The obituary for S/SGT Thomas A. Casey, 419th BS CASEY, Thomas A. 91, of Somerset, MA formerly of Medfield, MA, passed away on Wednesday February 3, 2010 at the Hebrew Rehabilitation Center in Boston, MA.
He was the husband of the late Clara (Smethurst) Casey. Thomas was born in Fall River, MA, the son of the late Thomas and Sarah (Merrill) Casey. He was a graduate of Somerset High School class of 1936. He then served his country during WWII with the United States Army Air Corps. He was a tail gunner with the 15th Air Corps 301st B-17 bomber squadron. He flew 53 missions over Europe and earned the rank of Sergeant.
After serving his country he went on to graduate from Brown University in 1949 with a Bachelors degree in economics. He worked for the Turex Company in Burrillville, RI, as a plant manager, retiring in 1980. He was a former member of Christ Church in Swansea and was active with the church vestry. Tom also was a member of the VFW Post in Somerset and an avid reader. Mr. Casey was a lifelong Boston Red Sox fan.
Survivors are a daughter Louise Steinkrauss and her husband Robert of Medfield, MA; two sons Thomas G. Casey and his wife Claire of Greer, SC; Bruce D. Casey and his wife Nancy of Boulder, CO; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Zada Casey, Rita Preston, Kathryn Chace and Charles Casey.
His funeral mass will be held on Thursday at 11am in Christ Church 57 Main St., Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
