Jean Byerly
Col. Jean R. Byerly's official military portrait On Christmas Day 1943, he was shot down over Italy in B-17 A/C 42-30134 and captured by the Germans. He was then sent to Stalag Luft #1 where he served as the Sr. Officer for 17 months until they were released by the Allied Troops. He was then Commander of MacDill Air Force Base in Florida from 1950 - 1952. In 1954, he retired from the military service and he passed away in 1955. Col. Byerly was Commanding Officer of the 301st Bomb Group from 11/24/43 to 12/25/43.
